The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven

What is the purpose of prayer? In what we call the Lord’s Prayer, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gave us a model for prayer. In it we can find the purpose of prayer: our relationship with the Lord and others, His will for our lives and this planet, faith in His ability to provide for us, and to deliver us from our enemies because He is the supreme ruler over all.

The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13)

Our Father which are in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

God is the Creator of us all, but He is not the Father of all peoples. Jesus told the Pharisees that they were of their father: the devil. So in order to make God our father, we must be born again of the water and of the Spirit. The true and living God dwells in heaven, and we are to reverentially fear Him and honor His name (not refer to Him as “The man upstairs”, etc).

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Jesus has come into the earth! And He has put a limitation on the activities on the “god of this world” when God’s children pray. We can pray His will for our lives, our families, our neighborhood, our nation into the earth-realm.

Give us this day, our daily bread.

Each day is a gift from God to make a difference for the Kingdom of God for His glory.

I can recall times when it was a struggle to put food on the table for nine homeschooled children. I cried out to God and He gave me this scripture. Trust Him to provide for you and your family!

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

We know that God is not the tempter (Satan is). The Book of James says let no man say that when he is tempted that is tempted of God, but instead God promises us that He will give us a way of escape when the tempter comes with temptation.

For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Count your blessings. Name them one by one. Ascribe to the Lord praise and thanksgiving for all of His wonderful works in our lives. It is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes.

Every good and perfect gift is from above coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights who does not change like shifting shadows

James 1:17

The Lord does not change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. So let us not set our hearts on temporal things, but on the Father Who is above and He favors His children. Believe for His favor over your life today because He is a “Good Good Father”.

Grace and Peace,
